Today, an ad for UVA’s main student volunteer organization, Madison House: The arrow correctly indicates they they are indeed right next door to Beta, and thus the eponymous bridge. In other news, the sidewalk looked particularly colorful and textured right here: Finally, I noticed I’m getting a few visitors coming over from Graffiti on Grounds,… [Read more…]
Sadly, today the Pokemon were covered to make way for a Greek rush event. They will live on here, and buried somewhere in those layers of paint. I fear this indicates the beginning of the no-rules painting Greek rush season, during which the bridge will be painted at least once a day with inane messages having… [Read more…]
Today I caught a mid-day repaint in action: Yes, it was warm enough to be painting without a shirt on (guy on the left). What kind of January is this, anyway? Their finished product was revealed later:
Some inside joke from International Residential College (IRC) student on the east side: The west side has remained largely untouched since the Pokemon arrived. I assume people would feel bad covering up something that obviously took a lot of work. We all know it can’t and won’t last forever, but only a few markings on… [Read more…]
A messy cover up painting today by the cycling team. It’s not very enticing to imagine a team captain yelling at you “pedal damnit!”: I didn’t notice until after I looked at this image, but it looks like they painted a golden bike under yesterday’s rabbit so it could ride. Should have gotten a close-up… [Read more…]
Happy birthday to Hoolia (I assume that’s the Hooified version of Julia): Not sure what this is (a person petting a rabbit?) but I like it: Also, it looks like “someone” recently put up a mediocre stencil on the northwest column: That would only be the second time there has been an advertisement for this… [Read more…]
Simultaneous 22nd birthdays today:
Seemingly without cause or reason, Pokemon showed up on Beta Bridge today. They are now joining Winnie the Pooh, who over a lonely winter break of keeping vigil on the bridge, was preserved in this repaint. My guess is that the Pooh painters and Pokemon painters are one in the same, based on the amount of… [Read more…]
No new paint on the bridge today. That magic combination of non-semesterness and cold, wet weather (it actually snowed today) creates a powerful force that drives away painters. However, I have two other things today: 1) a chunk of bridge paint I found on the sidewalk a month or two ago and 2) a Xmas gift… [Read more…]
Finally, the first full repaint of 2012. Later in the day, a successful proposal arrived on the east side:
Nothing really new on the bridge in 2012. The university is still on break and the high for today is only 32F, not good conditions for painting. The only update is black paint over the previous adulteration. I think it was actually done on the 31st, but I just today got a picture of it.… [Read more…]
